Center Stage

Watercolor painting of a man in a green suit on a stage. He is holding a mask of his face, revealing his real face which has no eyes and a sinister smile. On the floor of the stage is a woman peeking out from behind the curtain. She also has a mask and no eyes. Between the two people on the stage is a rotten apple with bites taken out of it. In the background is a tree with a snake hanging from a branch.

Watercolor painting

This watercolor painting was inspired by the Biblical story of Adam and Eve’s fall. Even though both were disobedient and both were punished, it seemed that when people talked about the story, Eve was portrayed as the really bad one and Adam just blindly trusted his wife. I didn’t think this was fair to Eve. In this painting, I display this inequity with Adam on center stage, looking very cool and at ease, and Eve on the ground, just peeking out from behind the curtain.
